Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in Akwa Ibom State, have arrested 19 students of the Akwa Ibom State University, (AKSU) Mkpat-Enin, for suspected internet-related offences, popularly known as yahoo.
The 19 suspects were arrested on Friday 28th April 2023, at their private hostels, Obong Abasi Lodge and Mfon Obong Lodge both located at Ikot Akpadem in Mkpat-Enin Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
Some of the suspects were alleged to be involved in romance scams, fraudulent cryptocurrency transactions and impersonation.
A number of laptops and mobile phones were recovered from them.
The Commission added that it will be charging the students to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
