The Federal Government of Nigeria has established a Federal College of Education at Ididep, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Ita Enang has announced.
The former Senior Presidential Aide who made the disclosure on Friday during the 33rd anniversary celebration of the Presbyterian Senior Science College, Ididep, said the presidency, Federal Ministry of Education has since approved the establishment and commencement of the institution as well as the appointment of Dr Edem Ntuk as piooner Provost and Mr Nsemeke Udoakpan as piooner Registrar.
The institution will trigger an expansion of the premises of Presbyterian Senior Science College, Enang further announced, adding that the maiden academic session will commence in September 2023.
Enang commended the federal government for making the dream come to fruition, and particularly expressed happiness for being able to attract the Federal Polytechnic, Ukana; Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi and the newly born Federal College of Education.
The piooner provost, Dr Edem Ntuk hailed Senator Enang for persistently pursuing Akwa Ibom interest above personal interest.
He revealed that the institution will train and equip students with first degree and other higher degrees.
Earlier in her address, Principal of the school, Mrs Roseline Jacob Inyang-Ibom described the 33rd anniversary of PSSSI as a significant milestone in the life of an institution which serves as a "practical response to the yearnings and aspirations of many parents who want the best yet affordable form of balanced education and disciplinary formation and training for their children."
While appreciating the alumni of the association for intervening to give the school a facelift, the principal applauded Enang for personally constructing classroom blocks and laboratory for the school.
